Rano Appeals His Ranks to Sharpen Poverty Alleviation Programs

Jakarta Deputy Governor, Rano Karno, appealed his ranks, from assistants to heads of agencies, to sharpen poverty alleviation programs so that they are more targeted, focused, and able to reach vulnerable groups.

to realize a just, prosperous, and inclusive Jakarta

Rano said that the current poverty situation in Jakarta requires attention. As of September 2024, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded the poverty rate in Jakarta at 4.14 percent. Meanwhile, extreme poverty was recorded at 0.35 percent in March 2024.

"Jakarta has set ambitious targets through Regional Regulation Number 8/2024 about the 2025-2045 Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD). These targets include reducing the poverty rate to 0.00-0.05 percent and achieving a Gini ratio of 0.36-0.38 by 2045," Rano said, Wednesday (7/16).

Rano emphasized several things to his ranks. For example, the Assistant for People's Welfare of the Regional Secretary ofJakarta was asked to coordinate the preparation of the Governor's Instruction to optimize the implementation of poverty alleviation and the elimination of extreme poverty, as a derivative of Presidential Instruction Number 8/2025.

Then, the Assistant Regional Secretaries are to coordinate the implementation of policies and activity programs in the 2025-2029 Regional Development Plan and the 2026 Poverty Alleviation Meeting in accordance with the agreed strategic targets, through periodic monitoring and evaluation.

Furthermore, he asked the Heads of Regional Agencies to ensure that the proposed activity programs in the RPKD and RAT are aligned with the strategic targets and outcomes of poverty alleviation, and are oriented towards a prosperous graduation scheme for the poor and vulnerable population.

They are also asked to strengthen partnerships with ministries, institutions, and non-governmental organizations to fill the intervention gap due to the limited authority of regional governments.

Rano also reminded his staff to comprehensively prepare the 2025–2029 Regional Poverty Alleviation Plan (RPKD) and the 2026 Annual Action Plan (RAT) for Poverty Alleviation. It will be used as a guideline for relevant stakeholders in optimizing poverty alleviation and eliminating extreme poverty.

Rano also invited all parties involved to optimize the role of the Jakarta Province Poverty Alleviation Coordination Team (TKPK) as a cross-sectoral coordination center in designing, monitoring, and evaluating programs that directly impact people's lives.

"I hope the results of this forum become part of the Regional Development Plan (RPKD) and Annual General Meeting (RAT) documents, which will be established through a Governor's Decree. This will enable us to realize a just, prosperous, and inclusive Jakarta for all its residents," Rano stated.
